About Us:

Although nostalgia is the backdrop for Rock'n August 2008, classics of the future provide our guests the opportunity to get up close and personal with the restored muscle cars that are quickly becoming highly priced collectibles.  Evidence that Rock'n August strikes the heartstrings of so many shows with the attendance figures of over 50,000.

History:

Rock'n August 2008 will celebrate its twelfth year of operation as the finest festival of Cars and Music in Western Canada and the City of St. Albert's third largest annual event. A number of years ago, the Cosmopolitan Clubs of St. Albert, Edmonton and Sturgeon wanted to create a fundraiser for Diabetes Research and Education. They decided that classic cars and the sounds of the fifties and sixties was the perfect mix and Rock'n August was born. With the support of the St. Albert Chamber of Commerce and the St. Albert Cruisers Car Club, this small, fun-filled event has turned into an international classic car display showcasing over 500 extraordinary automobiles valued at approximately 15 million dollars.

Goal:

The primary goal of Rock'n August is to continue to be a significant contributor to diabetes research and education. The Alberta Diabetes Foundation at the University of Alberta has set the international benchmark for treatment of diabetes with Islet Cell Transplantation. This year Rock'n August will make every effort to bring $50,000 to the doctors and researchers who specialize in this disease that will affect one in four Canadians in the next three to four years. All funds raised by Rock'n August remain within the province of Alberta.

Edmonton - The Alberta Diabetes Foundation is excited to announce that they are the recipients of a generous donation of $41,889 from the Rock'n August group. This brings the total contributions from
Rock’n August to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation to nearly $170,000 in the last 5 years. Microscopes and CO2 incubators purchased by the Rock'n August funds will assist researchers at the newly constructed Alberta Diabetes Institute in their search for a cure for diabetes.

Rock'n August is a partnership between the St. Albert, Edmonton, and Sturgeon Cosmopolitan Clubs, the St. Albert Cruisers and the St. Albert Chamber of Commerce. The ongoing support of the Rock'n August group in raising funds for diabetes research and education provides a strong community relationship, as well as funding for the Alberta Diabetes Foundation and the Alberta Diabetes Institute.

In its 12th year of operation, Rock'n August is an international classic car and music show that takes place throughout the City of St. Albert from August 5th - 9th, 2008. The cheque presentation is the official kickoff for the 2008 Rock'n August event. The Alberta Diabetes Foundation is thrilled that Rock'n August has set a fundraising goal for this year’s event to raise $50,000 for diabetes research and education.
