COVID-19 & The Father’s Day Soapbox Derby
The Management Committee of the Annual Father’s Day Derby has met and discussed the impact that the current covid-9 pandemic will have on this year’s event.
It is with a heavy heart that we have decided that for the safety of the volunteers, families and racers we will be cancelling the Father’s Day Event.
We will monitor the situation and if time should allow and we have access to volunteers, we will consider an event later in the summer. We will keep you updated on that decision as we move forward.
Should the event not take place in 2020, we will extend the age limit to 13 for 2021 ONLY so that those racers that would have aged out in 2020 will still have an opportunity to race another year.
FURTHER: Should you wish to purchase a Derby Kit, knowing that we may not run in 2020, they are still available for purchase. The kits are $90.00 each. You will require an additional purchase of 4’x4’ plywood and required parts for your chosen brake design.
After calling to confirm that there are carts still available, please process payment. The accepted method of payment at this time for kits will be an etransfer to firstname.lastname@example.org. This must be completed prior to pick up. Please put your name in the Comment box so that we know who the payment is from. If you do not do this, we will not be able to release a cart until we have confirmed all other pickups.
The pickup location will be at the home of Cheryl MacKenzie, Race Director (located in St Albert). Please call ahead to arrange a time for pick up. 780-907-1034
Thank you to all families and racers for your continued support. We will have this event back up and running as soon as possible and look forward to another great day on the hill!

The Annual Soap Box Derby is presented each year on Father’s Day. Reborn in 2011 as a part of the 150th Anniversary of the City of St Albert, the event was picked up by Rock ‘N August in 2012. RNA wanted to ensure that it continued as part of the annual list of events in St Albert and this year we are happy to say we are into our 10th consecutive year. The event provides excitement for everyone on hand, racers and spectators alike. With more than 50 racers each year between the ages of 6 and 12, you never know what you are going to see. This is definitely a Spectator friendly Event.
Event Date: Sunday, June 14th 2020, 12:15 start time for races.
Location: St Vital Avenue, St Albert, AB
Inspection Days: 6-8PM, June 8th & 11th – Leo Nickerson Elementary, 10 Sycamore Drive, St Albert
Registration: $40 per Driver EARLYBIRD ($50 per Driver after May 15th) / Car Kits $90 EARLYBIRD ($100 per Kit after May 15th – Prior Year GoKit cars may be used but require re-inspection). Kits available for sale at Sparklean DKI at 8 Riel Drive AFTER March 9th or by contacting Cheryl MacKenzie at 780-907-1034.
